![]() Poe Through The Glass Prism is an oddity. It's a rarity. It's.. everything you would hope for in a psychedelic recording. Mr. Wonderful introduced this album to me about 4 years ago - he'd hunted it down and I'm yet to find out where exactly he had heard about it. For a while we were playing rare 60's records at parties and 'El Dorado' would always be a killer break to drop (you can listen to the track we played out below...) It's one of those albums that I've always had one eye open for - to see the purple sleeve with those odd looking dudes and their haircuts would be highly unlikely and therefore cold sweat inducing. Well, it finally happened; by pure chance I'd taken a diversion through Camden and popped into a record shop, and there it was in all its glory. To finally have a chance to just shut my eyes and listen to this album on a near-perfect pressing was amazing. The whole album is based upon a series of famous poems by the enigmatic Edgar Allen Poe, an American writer from the 19th Century who was incidentally a resident of the Stoke Newington Boy's School (which used to be around the corner from where I live) during his formative years. OK, so that's a typically - perhaps even stereotypically weird idea for what is essentially a 60's concept album, but it's quite easy to put those thoughts aside when you hear the music. The production is ultra clear even though the instrumentation isn't perfect. The two best tracks in my opinion are 'To...' and 'Eldorado', the latter of which has a killer break tucked away in there. Hear the aforementioned B-side to their 7" below.. Glass Prism - Elderado (RCA Victor 74-0205 1969) 'The Raven' was the A-side. br> Click here to downloadIf you appreciate 60's psych, rare breaks or even Poe's poetry, this is one to pick up, make no bones about it.
