This Thursday is the Opening party/ Private View of BLESS-ED -  SUPERIMPOSING THE THOUGHT OF HAPPINESS

Robbie and Leanne are two people I look up to with the upmost respect. They prove us all wrong, all the time. They represent exactly what we should all be doing with our own lives. Don’t feel disrespected by this. It’s all love, all the time, always. I’ve known Robbie and Leanne for a long time now. I met them through Benji many moons ago. Original London Heads Know. They moved to Canada, to the lakes soon after Zion was born. Their wedding was incredible. But Robbie’s 5 year plan talks back in the Droop Street era really made an impression on me. Their art has always shone. Their art has always been theirs too.  You are all invited to celebrate their work this Thursday evening. If you can’t make it down, then try to view their work over the next couple of weeks.

Robbie and Leanne have always been heavily involved in music. Flyers, album covers, 12" sleeves, Prints, Silk Screens, T-shirts - Their Organic feel was organic before Waitrose tasted the difference.

Check out their website here: http://www.wadadameanslove.com/

VIPERS FOR VIVA RADIO - CREATED BY VIPERS - RECORDED circa 2006 or 2007

Here's another one from the man Vipers. This was one of the first few shows that was recorded for the online radio station Viva Radio.

If you've heard the Melding of Minds mix by Vipers and Mr Wonderful then you'll love this.

It's Vipers at his supreme best  - a full on charge of 60's psychedelia and teen pop goodies - a musical pick 'n' mix.

Enjoy

DROWN YOUR DAYS

ANTARCTICA - 23:03 (1998) & 81:03 (2000)

Antarctica were a post punk / electronic band that within there short tenure produced possibly one of the best albums of their genre at the time. The band formed in New York after Eric Richter decided to leave his previous band CFD (Christie Front Drive).

Their first three track e.p [23:03] - released in 1998, and which is actually twenty three minutes and three seconds long - reminds you of the Joy Division or Sonic youth. All three tracks move at the same pace slow, almost dubbed out vocals and the gentle, floaty reverb on the guitar give you the sense that you are in a very peaceful lonely place, a vast beautiful wasteland almost like you're in Antarctica - and suddenly the name of the band almost becomes apt.

Their second and unfortunately last release,  [81:03] - a double album released in 2000 still features a very similar sound to that of the first E.p but with electronic instruments having much more of a significance, the synth action just adds to the beauty of their music - real cloud music - for eighty one minutes and three seconds you are shut out from the rest of the World and face to face with some of the more beautiful images that music can conjure.

MAN MAY LIVE ON THIS BREAD ALONE
Reviews - sleaze funk

JUNIE - BREAD ALONE  - CBS 1980 - WALTER (JUNIE) MORRISON

This is one of those albums that have slipped under the radar for a few people, seems to be the case with most Junie records. I personally didn't know at the time I found this record that the ex Ohio Player and Parlaimentarian had embarked on a solo career -
Solid enough, I thought while listening to it, exactly what you’d expect that sleaze funk sound, lots of fuzz and groany almost whiney vocals, flip it over to the B side, look at the back of the sleeve and there’s a track whose title immediately gets my attention – Impatiently drop the needle on the third track and there's the faint sound of what sounds like a serious baseline which slowly builds with volume, eventually you get this full blast of power funk it’s a dirty, filthy track – the base line says sleaze all through - triple xxx and I loved every single second of  its 7 and a half minutes.

The other tracks are above average but it really is all about first class seaman (Jock rock) – I’ve never used the phrase desert island disc – maybe because I’ve never pictured my self on a desert island  - but if I ever was on one this track is coming with me alongside a life supply of shredded wheat.

(Obafunkie Jr)

MADE IN NAIJA (NIGERIA MIXTAPE) - OBAFUNKIE JR - SPECIALLY RECORDED FOR WWW.NUTSTOSOUP.COM - JUNE 2009- YOU WILL ONLY EVER HEAR THIS ON NUTS TO SOUP - our lawyers are watching

For those of you who have never heard of Obafunkie Jr - Here's a quick introduction

Obafunkie Jr is possibly one of the deepest and most respected record collectors and dealers around. So much so that when yopu speak to the likes of Kon (Kon and Amir) and Dam Funk - renowned collectors themselves - The name Obafunkie usually comes up followed by "he's serious, I've bought some incredible stuff from him". The guy is so respected that Dam Funk made a track specially dedicated to him [Obafunkie] and his online radio show The Boogie Heads Show.

To show his support for what we are doing here on Nuts To Soup, Obafunkie has put together a special mix just for us -YOU WILL ONLY EVER HEAR THIS MIX ON NUTS TO SOUP

The mix is titled Made in Naija and features - if you have'nt guessed yet - boogie tracks and psych funk tracks from Nigerian Artists.

This mix is UNREAL I repeat UNREAL, it is possibly the best mix I've heard in a very very long time, you will listen to this a million times and more, but you will never tire - impossible.

Sound Way are doing some incredible stuff, but trust none of the comps they have ever done touch this mix, infarct no Nigerian compilation album (and there are many out there) come close to this.

It is a real privilege to be releasing this out to the rest of the World

Look out for the Gboyega Adelaja (colourful environment) track, its - in the words of Judah - DRUGS

HERMANN SZOBEL - SZOBEL- ARISTA 1976

Hermann Szobel is one of those artists whose genius you know, is masking an underlying madness. The guy was a musical prodigy the fact that he created this masterpiece - his first and only album - at the age of just 18 show that the mans talent was immense -(i'm not talking Lily Allen "talent" I'm talking 6 year old Chinese boy playing Bach with his eyes closed talent).

It's a jazz fusion record that will also appeal to prog rock fans but has it's roots in classical music.

Szobel features on the keys (look out for the solos) and his musical composition and arrangements are mind blowing- the constant change of pace on some of the tracks leave you guessing as to where he's going to next - its organised - beautiful sounding - chaos.

Szobel recorded this album and has never been heard of since - apparently he was locked up in a mental institution, shortly after - they must have heard the album.

Totally underated and slept on - you have to get a hard copy of this album, its too important.

Because this is too good not to share we have recorded all five tracks of the album for our podcast and for you all to download and listen -

The madness begins.
